COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Elmhurst women's basketball team remained unbeaten on the 2016-17 season by hammering Colorado College 82-39 in the Bluejays' opening-round game of the Colorado College Tournament.
Elmhurst upped its record to 5-0 with the victory while Colorado College slipped to 1-3 overall. The Bluejays scored the game's opening bucket and led wire-to-wire, never trailing in the contest. The Bluejays scored the first 10 points of the game and quickly put Colorado College in an early hole. Elmhurst pushed its lead up to as many as 17 points in the first quarter and led 25-11 after the opening 10 minutes.
The Bluejays continued to pull away in the second quarter, opening the first seven minutes with a 17-3 run to build a 42-14 cushion. The Bluejays led 42-20 at the half. Elmhurst continued to have its way in the final 20 minutes of action, outscoring Colorado College 40-19 to cruise to the 43-point victory.
Elmhurst shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the floor, including 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from downtown. The Bluejays made the most of Colorado College's mistakes, turning 33 turnovers into 37 points. Colorado College shot just 28.9 percent (13-of-45) from the floor while missing all four of its attempts from three-point range.
Hannah Lipman led a balanced Elmhurst attack in the win, finishing with a team-best 15 points while shooting 5-of-5 from the floor.
Mikaela Eppard added 14 points and eight rebounds while
Kaela Jones also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points.
Kalia Summerlin added eight points while
Erika Johnson scored seven. In total, 12 different Bluejays put points on the scoreboard in the victory.
Colorado College was led by 12 points from Jordan Metlzer in the loss.
Elmhurst closes out the two-game tournament by facing Concordia College (Minn.) tomorrow (November 26).
