ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst wrestling team upped its dual meet record to 5-2 on the season after defeating the University of Chicago 37-12.

Chicago (3-8) jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after the 125 pound contest. Devan Richter scored a quick takedown and pinned Elmhurst's Anthony Munoz in 1:00 to stake the Maroons to the quick lead. Chicago made it 9-0 in the dual after Louis Demarco edged Caleb Ramos 3-1 at 133 pounds.

Elmhurst picked up six points at 141 pounds after Jimmy Nehls earned a forfeit victory. At 149 pounds, top-ranked Blake Santi remained unbeaten by scoring a 17-1 technical fall over Mason Williams in 3:45. Tim Noverini followed at 157 pounds and needed just 3:07 to score a 17-0 technical fall over Luke Iida to put Elmhurst in front 16-9. Keone Derain gave Elmhurst a 19-9 lead after toppling Nick Ferraro 7-1 at 165 pounds.

At 174 pounds, Chicago's Paul Papoutsis defeated Mitch Morris 6-2 to pull the Maroons to within seven points (19-12) in the dual. Bobby Schillinger put the dual meet out of reach for the Bluejays by pinning Duncan Payne in 2:09. Freshman Grant Tennihill followed with a first-round pin of Joseph Scheidt at 197 pounds (2:41) to give Elmhurst a 31-12 lead in the dual. Zack Urbanski earned a forfeit win at 285 pounds to make the final score 37-12 in favor of the Bluejays.

Elmhurst will wrestle at the Pete Wilson Invitational next weekend (January 29-30).
