ELMHURST, Ill. –
Meg Griffin became Elmhurst's all-time leader in career hits as the Elmhurst softball team closed out the season by splitting a doubleheader with the University of Chicago. The Bluejays fell 8-6 in game one but bounced back to take the night cap 4-3.

CHICAGO 8, ELMHURST 6 (Game One) –  Griffin collected four hits to surpass Hillary Pietrucha's record of 161 career hits, but the Bluejays were unable to hold on to a three-run lead, falling to Chicago 8-6 in the opener.

Meg GriffinChicago struck first in the top of the third. After a hit batter and a double put runners at second and third with one out, Anna Woolery singled home a run to the Maroons on the scoreboard. Maggie O'Hara followed with a two-run double to extend Chicago's lead to three.

Elmhurst answered back immediately with four straight hits to start the bottom of the third.
Crystal Marinelli tripled to lead off the inning and an infield single from MIkayla Melone put runners on the corners with no outs.
Bella Masini put Elmhurst on the scoreboard with a single to right field to drive in Marinelli. After tying Elmhurst's hit record with a single in the first inning, Griffin became the Bluejays' new record holder by lacing a triple down the right field line to even the score at 3-3.
Ele Walter dropped down a squeeze bunt to drive in Griffin and put Elmhurst in front 4-3.

Elmhurst loaded the bases with no outs to start the fifth inning. After back-to-back force outs at home plate,
Brianna Thompson delivered a two-out, two-run single to right to extend Elmhurst's lead to 6-3.

The Bluejays' lead vanished in the top of the sixth as Chicago sent nine batters to the plate and came up with three two-out hits to score five runs and take an 8-6 lead. A two-run single from Sara Koniewicz started Chicago's scoring and pulled the Maroons to within a run. Devan Parkison singled home a run to even the score and Woolery followed with a two-run double to center to put Chicago in front 8-6.

Griffin finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate to pace the Bluejays at the plate. She scored two runs while driving in two.
Mikayla Melone added three hits and scored a run for Elmhurst.

Tiffany Potthast made the start for Elmhurst and took a no-decision, allowing six hits and six runs in 5.1 innings of work.Â
Stephanie Sturino took the loss, falling to 5-4 on the year. She allowed three hits and two runs in 1.2 innings of work. Jordan Poole picked up the win for Chicago, scattering 10 hits and six runs in seven innings. She walked one and fanned six.

ELMHURST 4, CHICAGO 3 (Game Two) – Elmhurst closed out its 2015 season with a 4-3 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.

Elmhurst grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Thompson and a fielder's choice grounder from
Alyssa Jasinski. Griffin put the Bluejays up by three in the second with an RBI double.

Chicago cut into Elmhurst's lead with two runs in the fifth inning. Molly Moran drove in a run with a single and Woolery added a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-2. The Bluejays got a run back immediately as miscue on Chicago's outfield resulted in a two-base error and an unearned run.

A bloop single from Koniewicz in the seventh brought Chicago to within a run at 4-3, but
Stefanie Sanidas pitched out of the jam, retiring the next three batters while stranding the potential tying and go-ahead runs on base.

Griffin continued to swing a hot bat for the Bluejays in the second game, finishing 3-for-4 to close out her career with a new Elmhurst record 167 hits.
Bella Masini and Thompson each collected two hits in the win for the Bluejays.

Sanidas went the distance to improve to 4-3 on the season for Elmhurst. She scattered eight hits and three runs over seven innings. She walked two and fanned one. Tabbetha Bohac took the loss for Chicago, working two innings and allowing five hits and three earned runs.

Elmhurst closed out the season with a 20-18 overall record.
