Women's Soccer Team Blanks Hope

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - Megan Hart broke a scoreless tie in the 60th minute to lead the Elmhurst College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Hope College at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst had to wait out a 30-minute rain delay at the start of the match and then had to hold off a Hope team that outshot Elmhurst 17-6 in the contest for the win.

The game was scoreless after the first 45 minutes despite both teams having scoring chances. Elmhurst's best scoring chance came in the opening half when Anna Garritano sent a free kick just over the top of the net. Hope had

a pair of strong looks in the opening half. Natalie Curry had an open shot in the 31st but sailed the kick high. Nora Kirk's header just before the end of the half also went over the crossbar.

Hope's best scoring chance of the match came early in the second half. Elizabeth Perkins' header was ticketed for the back of the net until Alyssa Angelo stepped in front to deflect the shot wide.

Elmhurst broke a scoreless tie in the 60th minute. An Elmhurst corner kick was headed off the crossbar by Courtney O'Keeffe and Hart collected the rebound and slipped the ball through traffic in front and into the back of the net.

The Bluejays' turned away multiple chances from Hope for the final 30 minutes to preserve the victory.

Melinda Vickers recorded three saves in goal for Elmhurst to earn her second straight shutout. Kat Dickson stopped two shots in net for the Flying Dutch.

Elmhurst travels to Benedictine University on Thursday, September 11.
