Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Bluejays' four-game winning streak was snapped in a 4-2 road loss to Marian University (Wis.).
The Sabres (2-4) opened the contest with three unanswered goals before Elmhurst (4-2) scored two of their own. A late insurance goal gave the Sabres some cushion down the stretch.Â
Marian's scored twice in the opening ten minutes of play. In the ninth minute, Mikaila Johnson took a 40-yard shot that found the net when it was misplayed by the Elmhurst defense. Then, a minute later, Brittany Syms tucked a Maisie Floyd cross past Elmhurst keeper
Melinda Vickers.Â
The Sabres extended their lead to 3-0 in the 25th minute. Floyd beat Vickers in a one-on-one situation and placed a ten-yard shot into the empty goal.Â
Elmhurst struck for their first goal in the 34th minute when
Jackie Belmonte scored from the penalty spot.Â
The Bluejays pulled within one just 36 seconds after the second half kickoff.
Meagan McPherson took a wide pass from
Megan Hart and drilled a 12-yard shot inside the far post.Â
Marian scored a 68th minute insurance goal when Leisa Conn slipped a pass to Syms, who tucked home her second goal of the contest.Â
Elmhurst outshot Marian 24-9 in the contest and 15-3 in the second half, but Marian's goal keepers, Caitlyn Rosenberger and Alysha Kallas, combined for ten saves and the Sabres converted each of their four shots on goal.Â
The Bluejays continue their five-game road trip by traveling to Greenville on Saturday, September 20.Â
