Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst Women's Soccer team opened their 2014 campaign by dropping a tight 1-0 contest to Dominican University.
After a scoreless first half, Dominican struck in the 61st minute. Leah Tednes received a rebound just on the edge of the box and blasted a shot past the outstretched hands of Elmhurst goalkeeper
Melinda Vickers to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.
Elmhurst's best chance to equalize came in the 73rd minute when
Marri Gragnani beat her defender, but shot the ball into the arms of Dominican keeper Sara Stepanovich.
Anna Garritano led the Bluejays with three shots, two of which were on goal.
Jackie Belmonte and
Shannon Pimmel each put a shot on frame.
Tednes was the key offensive player for Dominican taking five of her team's six shots on goal.
Vickers recorded six saves in the contest, while Stepanovich stopped five Elmhurst attempts.
The Bluejays will be back in action on Sunday, August 31 when they host Bethel at 1:00 p.m.
