Bluejays Fall to #12 UW-Oshkosh

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team hung tough before falling to 12th-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh 58-48 at Oglethorpe University's tournament.

Elmhurst (6-4) hung right with the Titans for the opening half. The Bluejays scored the game's first six points and built an eight-point cushion at 12-4 before Oshkosh responded. ,Oshkosh used a 17-7 run over a six-minute span to take a 21-19 lead. Elmhurst went back in front on a Kalia Summerlin three-pointer with four minutes left, but six straight points gave the Titans a 30-25 lead with 1:43 left in the half. ,The Bluejays pulled even at 30-30 after a three-point play from Hannah Lipman but a free throw from Taylor Schmidt gave Oshkosh a 31-30 lead at the half.

Oshkosh never relinquished its lead in the second half despite several runs from the Bluejays. Elmhurst was within three points midway through the half, but a 9-1 by the Titans over the next five minutes gave Oshkosh a 52-40 lead before pulling away for the 10-point victory.

Elmhurst shot 37.5 percent (15-of-40) from the floor but struggled from three-point range, hitting just 2-of-13 shots (15.4 percent).

Mikaela Eppard continued her strong play, finishing with a double-double to lead the Bluejays in the loss. Eppard scored a game-high 20 points while shooting 5-of-7 from the floor and 10-of-10 from the foul line. She added a game-best 12 rebounds in the win. Lipman and Claire Monroe scored five points apiece while Fiona McMahon and Melanie Schwerdtmann added four points each.

Oshkosh shot 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from the field and 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from beyond the arc. Katelyn Kuehl led the Titans with 15 points in the win while Eliza Campbell reached double figures with 12 points. Schmidt finished with eight points for the TItans.

Elmhurst wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule by traveling to Aurora University on December 30.
