WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team's season came to a close with a 8-0 loss to Wheaton College in the CCIW Tournament semifinals.
The Thunder (17-1-3) jumped all over the Bluejays (11-7), scoring six times in the first half. Wheaton's first-half goals came in 17-minute barrage.
Mary Petit put the Thunder on the board in the 13th minute by scoring inside the box. Two more Wheaton goals came within a three-minute span. Kendall Eitreim scored from long-range to put Wheaton up 2-0. Then, three minutes later, Bailey Wysocki matched Petit with a goal inside the box.
Ally Witt continued the Wheaton scoring in the 25th minute by collecting the ball off a deflection and shooting it into the back of the net. Sydney Sharkey made it a 5-0 advantage with another short-range goal. Wheaton went into the half up 6-0 because Kathryn McGregor added her third goal of the year off of a long cross from Samantha Frank in the 41st minute.
In the second half, Wheaton wasted no time getting back on the scoreboard. Just a minute and 48 seconds into the second half, Frank assisted on another Thunder goal, this time Kristin Rauh scored. McGregor's second goal of the game wrapped up the scoring for Wheaton in the 82nd minute.
Wheaton out shot Elmhurst 32-9 in the contest, including 23-2 in the first half.
Meagan McPherson led the Bluejays with three shots, one of which was on goal.
Kelsey Graham, Abbey Fuster, and Mary Daghfal stopped two shots each to combine for the shutout.
Melinda Vickers and
Emily Gordon split time in net. Vickers made seven saves, while Gordon made four.
