Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team dropped its CCIW opening contest of the season after falling 82-55 to Illinois Wesleyan University at R.A. Faganel Hall.
Trailing by three in the early portion of the first half, Illinois Wesleyan (7-5, 1-0 CCIW) ripped off a 25-7 run over a 10-minute span to open up a quick 18-point lead. The Titans led 45-26 at the half after Elmhurst turned the ball over 17 times leading to 20 points for the Titans.
Illinois Wesleyan continued to pull away in the second half, leading by as many as 35 points before cruising to the 27-point victory.
Elmhurst (8-4, 0-1 CCIW) struggled with the Titans' full court press, turning the ball over a season-high 30 times resulting in 31 points for Illinois Wesleyan.
The Titans shot 49.3 percent (24-of-69) from the floor, including 29.2 percent (7-of-24) from three-point range. Elmhurst was limited to only 38.0 percent (19-of-50) shooting and struggled from downtown, hitting just 3-of-11 attempts (27.3 percent). Illinois Wesleyan outscored Elmhurst 48-26 in the paint and enjoyed a 37-34 edge on the glass.
Fiona McMahon led Elmhurst in the loss with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Melanie Schwerdtmann chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Katie Swanson each scored six points apiece for the Bluejays.
Shelby Jackson paced the Titans in the victory with 19 points. Colleen McMahon added 15 points while Katy Seibring scored 10 for the Titans. Lexi Baltes totaled eight points, five assists and seven steals for the Titans.
Elmhurst hosts Wheaton College on Wednesday, January 8.
