The Elmhurst women's basketball team led only once in a 71-33 loss to nationally ranked Carthage College on the road Wednesday night.
After Carthage scored the opening bucket of the game before Elmhurst responded with four straight to grab their only lead.
Devin Vaughn's jumper with 15:31 to play in the half allowed the Bluejays to lead 4-2. Carthage quickly built the lead to seven and held a 23-14 advantage at the break. Elmhurst made only seven first half field goals and finished 0-for-7 from three-point range.
Carthage scored six points rapidly to open the second half on a pair of threes to open a 15-point advantage. The lead continued to build, reaching 20 points with 12:49 to go and 31 with 6:53 left. Carthage shot 57.6 percent in the second half while Elmhurst made only five field goals.
No player reached double figures for the Bluejays.
Karen Senette netted nine to lead the way. Vaughn and
Melanie Schwerdtmann added seven each.
Elmhurst (10-7, 2-4) hosts Augustana on Saturday afternoon.
