Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team picked up its sixth win of the season by hammering the Illinois Institute of Technology 94-45 at R.A. Faganel Hall.
Elmhurst (6-1) scored the game's first 10 points and never looked back. The Bluejays led by 19 midway through the opening half and extended their lead to 22 points (50-28) at the half.
The Bluejays opened the second half on a 23-1 run over the first seven minutes to take a 44-point lead. The Bluejays led by as many as 52 points in the half and cruised to the 49-point win.
Elmhurst shot 50.7 percent (38-of-75) from the floor, including 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from three-point range. The Bluejays dominated on the glass, outrebounding IIT by 33, including a 25-17 edge on the offensive glass. The Bluejays scored 26 second-chance points off their 25 offensive rebounds.
Twelve different Bluejays scored points in the victory. Melanie Schwertdmann remained red-hot, pumping in a career-high 24 points while shooting 11-of-12 from the floor. Schwerdtmann finished with a double-double after pulling down a team-leading 11 rebounds.
Fiona McMahon added a double-double for the Bluejays, totaling 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Whitney Shaffer came off the bench to score 18, knocking down 7-of-10 shots, including 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Hannah Lipman added 10 points and five assists for the Bluejays while
Devin Vaughn totaled four points, five assists and six rebounds.
Karen Senette added seven assists and five rebounds.
Erika Johnson came off the bench to score eight.
IIT shot only 23.1 percent (15-of-65) from the floor in the loss. Adrianna Maron and Michelle Arriola scored 11 points apiece in the loss. Lauren Capuano added nine points and nine rebounds while Neilina Vierra totaled six points and nine rebounds.
Elmhurst hosts Fontbonne University on Saturday, December 14.
