Box Score INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Elmhurst women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped in an 84-51 loss at Simpson University.
Elmhurst (7-2) struggled from the opening tip as the Bluejays missed their first nine shots as Simpson (5-4) opened the contest on a 23-5 run. Simpson led by 17 at the half and used a 16-4 run over the game's final eight minutes to pull away for the 33-point victory.
The Bluejays shot a season-low 31.3 percent (15-of-48) from the field and were colder from three-point range, hitting just 4-of-17 attempts (23.5 percent). Elmhurst also struggled from the foul line, hitting only 17-of-30 attempts (56.7 percent). The Bluejays also turned the ball over 20 times, resulting in 30 points for the Storm.
Fiona McMahon led the Bluejays in the loss with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Karen Senette added 10 points and six boards while
Melanie Schwerdtmann added nine points for Elmhurst.
Simpson finished the game shooting 45.0 percent (27-of-60) from the field, including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from downtown. The Storm hit 22-of-27 attempts from the free throw stripe (81.5 percent).
Morgan Mauro led SImpson with 12 points while Maddie Muhlenbruck and Markayla Mahr scored 10 points apiece. Whitney Van Wyk, Morgan Terpstra and MacKenzie Haupt all scored nine for the Storm.
Elmhurst will look to rebound from the loss by taking on Wartburg College tomorrow (December 18).
