Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team netted three goals in the second half to topple Millikin University 3-1 at Langhorst Field.
After a scoreless opening half, the Bluejays broke loose in the second half, erupting for three goals in less than an eight-minute span. Courtney O'Keefe started the scoring with a goal in the 59th minute.
Emily Heimerdinger made a run down the far sideline and sent a cross through the box. O'Keefe collected the pass and tucked the ball into the net for the game's first goal.
Elmhurst (8-6, 2-3 CCIW) made it 2-0 less than four minutes later. Heimderdinger corralled a pass from
Biba Beckwith and blasted home a goal into the lower corner of net from just outside the top of the box.
The Bluejays extended their lead to three just three minutes later after O'Keefe netted her second goal of the contest. An Elmhurst corner kick was headed by
Kat Waugh but kept out of the net by a Millikin defender. O'Keefe was able to knock home the rebound to put the Bluejays up by three goals.
Millikin scored its only goal in the 85th minute on a Chelsey Smalley penalty kick.
Elmhurst outshot Millikin 19-7 in the contest, including a 12-2 edge in the second half.
Emily Gordon made the start for Elmhurst and recorded two saves in over 70 minutes of action.
Olivia Schoch finished up in net for Elmhurst and made one save. Millikin keeper Kayla Lojas took the loss, surrendering three goals while stopping six shots. Kyli Humm finished in net for the Big Blue and recorded one save.
Elmhurst travels to Augustana College next Saturday, October 26.
