Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team upped its record to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin by defeating Millikin University 68-59.
The back-and-forth first half featured nine ties and six lead changes as Millikin (5-8, 0-3 CCIW) led 31-30 at the break.
Elmhurst jumped out in front in the second half, scoring the first seven points to open up a 37-31 lead. Millikin chipped away at the lead, tying the score at 47-47 with 13 minutes left to play.  The Bluejays responded with buckets from 
Kim Schwerdtmann and 
Devin Vaughn to open up a 51-47 lead. Millikin cut the Bluejays' lead back down to two points before the Bluejays took a 57-53 lead wih 7:46 left on the clock.
The momentum seemed to shift when 
Karen Senette knocked down a three-pointer and was fouled in the process, completing the four-point play to take a 61-53 lead with 5:30 left. Millikin closed to within four points with 1:14 left, but Senette knocked down a jump shot with 47 seconds left to put the game out of reach.
Elmhurst shot a whopping 59.1 percent (26-of-44) from the floor, including 40.0 percent (4-of-10) from beyond the arc. The Bluejays struggled with controlling the ball, turning the ball over 27 times resulting in 20 points for the Big Blue. The Bluejays won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Millikin 34-23.
Senette and 
Fiona McMahon scored 16 points apiece to pace Elmhurst in the win. Senette added six rebounds and five assists in the win while McMahon shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor and pulled down seven rebounds and blocked four shots. 
Tess Godhardt added 13 points for Elmhurst while 
Nikky Moan came off the bench to score eight.
Millikin shot 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from the floor, including 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from three-point range. Alyssa Saklak led the way for the Big Blue with a game-high 28 points. Brittany Czaplinski finished with 15 for Millikin.
Elmhurst hosts North Park University on Saturday (January 12) at 2:00 p.m.
