Box Score DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team's chances at a CCIW Tournament spot suffered a hit in a 72-53 loss at Millikin University.
The Bluejays were outscored 42-26 in the second half and fell to 9-11 overall and 3-6 in league play. Millikin (6-13, 1-8 CCIW) snapped an eight-game conference skid with the victory.
Elmhurst started strong, building a quick 14-6 lead early in the first half before Millikin surged in front on the strength of a 13-4 run. The Big Blue led 30-27 at the half.
Leading by four early in the second half, Millikin ripped off a 20-7 run to open up a 56-39 lead with 8:17 to play. The Big Blue opened up a 22-point cushion and cruised the rest of the way to the 19-point win.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 39.6 percent (19-of-48) from the floor while struggling from beyond the arc, hitting just 3-of-13 attempts (23.1 percent).
Millikin ended the contest shooting 52.1 percent (25-of-48), including 63.6 percent (14-of-22) in the second half. The Big Blue were a solid 22-of-27 (81.5 percent) from the free throw line.
Turnovers continued to hamper the Bluejays as Elmhurst turned the ball over 27 times, resulting in 28 points for the Big Blue. Millikin also controlled the action in the paint, outscoring Elmhurst 38-18 in the lane.
Fiona McMahon paced Elmhurst in the loss, totaling 19 points and six rebounds while shooting 7-of-10 from the floor.
Karen Senette added 12 points while
Stephanie Mitchell scored seven.
Jasmine Johnson came off the bench to lead Millikin with 16 points. Nikki Tipsword finished with 12 while Moli Copple scored 10 for the Big Blue.
Elmhurst travels to North Central College on Saturday (February 2).
