Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Tess Godhardt scored 24 points and
Fiona McMahon pulled down a career-high 21 rebounds to lead the Elmhurst women's basketball team to a 69-61 victory over Augustana College.
Elmhurst (9-8, 3-3 CCIW) trailed 34-29 at the half, but the Bluejays outscored the Vikings 40-27 in the second half to pick up the nine-point win.
Trailing by six points in the second half, the Bluejays pulled in front of Augustana (6-10, 2-4 CCIW) on 10 straight points from Godhardt over a three minute span. Elmhurst opened up a seven-point cushion with 9:52 left to play, but Augustana came back to take a 58-57 lead with 5:30 left.
The Bluejays evened the score on a
Kim Schwerdtmann free throw and went on top for good on a
Karen Senette three-pointer with 3:51 remaining. Augustana went cold for the final four minutes of the contest, missing their final four shots and turning the ball over twice, allowing Elmhurst to secure the 69-61 win.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 37.9 percent (22-of-58) from the field, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from downtown. The Bluejays won the battle on the glass with a 47-38 rebounding edge.
Godhardt came off the bench to lead all scorers with 24 points, including 20 in the second half. She shot 9-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the foul line while also pulling down nine rebounds.
McMahon scored six points for the Bluejays and was a force on the glass, ripping down a career-high 21 rebounds, the sixth-highest single-game total in Elmhurst history. Her 21 rebounds ranks as the second-highest single-game total in CCIW history.
Karen Senette added 12 points and three assists for the Bluejays while
Devin Vaughn and
Whitney Shaffer totaled six points apiece.
Augustana finished the game shooting 35.4 percent (23-of-65) from the field, including 25.0 percent (4-of-16) from long distance.
Gianna Pecora led the Vikings with 16 points in the loss while Molly Etheridge totaled 15 points and eight rebounds. Jessica Baids added nine points for the Vikings.
Elmhurst hosts Wheaton College on Wednesday (January 23).
