Bluejays Battered By Carthage 63-33

Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team fell to 8-8 on the season after suffering a 63-33 blow out loss at Carthage College.

Elmhurst (2-3 CCIW) came out sluggish in the opening half and never recovered as Carthage (13-3, 5-0 CCIW) pulled away for a 42-8 lead at the half. Elmhurst shot only 2-of-18 (11.1 percent) in the first half and turned the ball over 16 times leading to 19 points for the Lady Reds. The Bluejays went the final 9:49 of the half without a point.

The Bluejays closed the gap to 23 points early in the second half, but Carthage quickly recovered, opening up a 32-point cushion and cruising to the 30-point win.

Elmhurst's 33 points marks the team's lowest points scored in over 13 years. The Bluejays finished the contest shooting just 27.9 percent (12-of-43) in the second half, including just 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from downtown.

Melanie Schwerdtmann came off the bench to finish with nine points and seven rebounds to lead the Bluejays in the loss. Fiona McMahon added five points for the Bluejays.

Carthage shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the fllor, including 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from three-point range.

Michelle Wenzel and Stephanie Kuzmanic scored 14 points apiece for Carthage. Cailee Corcoran finished with 10 points for the Lady Reds.

Elmhurst will look to get back on track on Saturday when the team travels to Augustana College.
