Bluejays Play Carthage to 2-2 Draw

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team opened the CCIW portion of its schedule by playing Carthage College to a 2-2 draw at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst (6-2-2, 0-0-1 CCIW) opened the game with a quick goal, scoring less than three minutes into the contest. Shannon Pimmel collected a pass from Morgan Geimer and angled a shot on the ground past Carthage keeper Abby Alm.

The Bluejays maintained their 1-0 lead at the half, outshooting Carthage 6-4 in the opening 45 minutes.

Carthage (4-4-3, 0-0-1 CCIW) wasted no time knotting the score in the second half. Taylor Capek grabbed a pass from Jessica Socha just off opening touch and scored 16 seconds into the half to even the score at one.

The tie lasted only five minutes as Katie Baschen put the Bluejays back on top in the 52nd minute with her third goal of the season. Baschen dribbled past a pair of Carthage defenders into the box and found the back of the net.

Carthage scored the equalizer in the 65th minute on Rachel Jason's seventh goal of the season. Rachel Post sent a cross through the box that Jason headed into the net to tie the score at 2-2.

Both teams had little energy in the overtime periods. Carthage managed the only shot of the first overtime. In the second overtime, the Lady Reds managed two shots, but put neither on goal. Elmhurst had one shot in the second overtime.

The Bluejays finished the contest outshooting Carthage 18-13. Carthage had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Maddie Fitzpatrick earned the decision in net for Elmhurst, allowing two goals and recording five saves. Alm allowed two goals while stopping six shots in goal for Carthage.

Elmhurst continues CCIW play on Wednesday (October 3) by hosting North Central College at Berens Park.
