Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Elmhurst women's basketball team suffered its third straight setback after faltering 72-57 at Loras College.
Elmhurst slipped to 2-3 with the loss while Loras improved to 6-1 on the season.
Loras raced out a 12-2 lead just 3:30 into the contest and built a 14-point lead nine minutes into the half. Trailing by 11 (29-18) with 4:49 to play in the half, Elmhurst scored seven straight points to pull to within four points with three minutes left on the clock. The DuHawks built their lead back to six points (33-27) at halftime.
Loras came out firing in the second half outscoring Elmhurst 22-4 over the first 7:30 to build a 24-point lead. The Bluejays managed to chip the lead down to 13 points with 5:23 left on the clock but came no closer as the DuHawks cruised to the 15-point victory.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting just 33.9 percent (20-of-59) from the floor. The Bluejays struggled from three-point range, hitting only 6-of-21 attempts from beyond the arc.
Loras shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field, including 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from three-point range. The DuHawks also won the battle on the boards, pulling down 41 rebounds to Elmhurst's 29.
Devin Vaughn and
Tess Godhardt scored 10 pints apiece to lead the Bluejays in the loss.
Courtney Spencer came off the bench to score nine points while
Claire Monroe chipped in with eight.
Katie Wheeler led Loras with 12 points. Melissa Herman added 11 points and seven rebounds while Niki Rivera added 10 points.
Elmhurst hosts Webster University on Saturday (December 8).
