Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule by hammering Beloit College 85-55.
Elmhurst (6-5) scored the game's first 13 points and never looked back. Leading 17-7 midway through the opening half, the Bluejays closed the half on a 28-14 run to open up a 45-21 lead at the half. The Bluejay shot 43.6 percent (17-of-39) in the opening half while limiting Beloit to only four field goals (4-of-24 for 16.7 percent).
Beloit (1-9) mounted a rally early in the second half, starting the half on a 14-4 run to close to within 14 points with 13:37 left on the clock. Leading by 15 with 11:09 left, Elmhurst used a 22-7 run to blow the game open and cruise to the 30-point victory.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting 43.2 percent (32-of-74) from the floor, including 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from beyond the arc. Elmhurst dominated in the paint, outscoring Beloit 46-22. The Bluejays also turned 17 Beloit turnovers into 21 points. The Bluejays were dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Buccaneers 56-29, including a 20-8 edge in offensive rebounds.
Tess Godhardt powered the Bluejays' attack, scoring a game-high 22 points while shooting 8-of-14 from the floor. Clarie Monroe added 14 points, hitting four three-pointers, and also collected seven rebounds in the win.
Kim Schwerdtmann came off the bench to score 11 while
Fiona McMahon and
Devin Vaughn scored eight points apiece. McMahon added a team-leading nine rebounds in the win.
Karen Senette totaled six points and six assists for the Bluejays.
Beloit finished the game shooting just 27.6 percent (16-of-58) from the floor. The Buccaneers missed all 11 of their three-point attempts.
Lana Wieseman scored 21 points while shooting 8-of-19 to lead the Buccaneers. She added seven rebounds and two blocked shots in the loss. Kandace Fox recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Lauren McNanna finished with 14 points.
Elmhurst opens CCIW play on Wednesday (January 2) by hosting North Central College.
