Box Score LISLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team fell to 5-5 on the season after coming up short in a 57-56 loss at Benedictine.
In a game that featured seven lead changes and 13 ties, the Bluejays missed four chances down the stretch to take the lead.
Trailing 27-25 at the half, Elmhurst fell behind by seven points early in the second half. The Bluejays responded with a 17-5 run to build a 55-50 lead with 5:48 left on the clock. The Bluejays would not hit a bucket for the remainder of the contest as Benedictine used a 7-0 run to take a 57-55 lead with 1:47 left to play. Elmhurst pulled to within a point on a
Claire Monroe free throw, but the Bluejays missed four chances down to take the lead over the game's final 1:33. Elmhurst was 0-7 from the floor over the final 5:48 of the game.
Elmhurst shot 37.3 percent from the floor, finishing 19-of-51 in the contest. The Bluejays connected on 9-of-22 three-pointers (40.9 percent) and 9-of-13 free throws (69.2 percent). The Bluejays struggled to protect the ball, turning the ball over 21 times resulting in 13 Benedictine points.
Monroe came off the bench to score a season-high 16 points while shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Fiona McMahon recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Karen Senette added 13 points for the Bluejays.
Benedictine shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field, including 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from three-point range.
Meghan Novak paced the Eagles with 14 points and six rebounds. Michelle Gaede added 13 points and five assists.
Elmhurst wraps up its non-conference season by hosting Beloit College on Saturday, December 29.
