Bluejay Women Race Past Alma in Second Half

Box Score ALMA, Mich. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team held Alma to without a field goal for the final 13 minutes of the game en route to a 70-50 road victory in Michigan.

Leading 6-5 early in the contest, the Bluejays used a 15-3 run to open up a 13-point cushion with 6:34 left in the opening half. Alma (2-6) slowly chipped away at Elmhurst's lead, pulling to within five points (34-29) at halftime.

Alma came racing out in the second half, building a 43-39 lead five minutes into the second half. Elmhurst answered back, scoring the game's next 21 points to build a 60-43 lead with 5:23 left on the clock. Alma managed only seven free throws for the game's final 15 minutes as Elmhurst pulled away for the 20-point win.

Elmhurst shot only 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the field, but the Bluejays dominated on the glass, ourebounding Alma 49-39 in the contest.

Stephanie Mitchell scored a career-high 18 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor, to lead the Bluejays in the win. Nikky Moan came off the bench to record her first double-double, totaling 11 points and 11 rebounds. Fiona McMahon, Karen Senette and Devin Vaughn all finished with eight points apiece. Whitney Shaffer added eight points for the Bluejays.

Alma finished the contest shooting just 22.6 percent (14-of-62) from the floor. Mallory Pruett totaled a team-leading 15 points while Grace Wheeler came off the bench to score 11.

Elmhurst travels to Benedictine University on Wednesday.
