Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - Fiona McMahon and
Tess Godhardt scored a combined 55 points to lead the Elmhurst women's basketball team to a 86-79 win over Westminster College.
Elmhurst (4-4) relied on McMahon's 23 points in the opening half to build a 48-39 lead at the break. In the second half, the Bluejays turned to Godhardt and the sophomore forward scored 19 points to help Elmhurst build a 16-point advantage. Westminster (2-5) closed to within six points with less than two minutes to play, but the Bluejays hit 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
McMahon recorded her third consecutive double-double, scoring a career-high 30 points and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds. She shot 13-of-17 from the floor and also blocked two shots. Godhardt finished one point off her career-high, finishing with a season-best 25 points while shooting 7-of-14 from the floor. Godhardt finished 11-of-12 from the foul line and added seven rebounds in the win.
Karen Senette scored 10 points to go with six rebounds and six assists.
Devin Vaughn totaled six points and dished out a game-high eight assists.
Whitney Shaffer added seven points for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst shot 47.6 percent (30-of-63) from the field but struggled from long range, shooting only 2-of-13 from downtown (15.4 percent). The Bluejays were a solid 24-of-32 (75 percent) from the foul line. Elmhurst also won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Westminster 47-36 and scoring 22 second chance points.
Westminster was led by Hannah Kloster's 20 points on an 8-of-11 shooting performance. Kenna Cornelson chipped in with 18 points while Leigh Ann Lutz scored 13 for the Blue Jays. Westminster shot 40.3 percent (27-of-67) from the field, including 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from three-point range.
Elmhurst travels to Alma College on Monday.
