Bluejay Women Close Season With Loss at Millikin

The Elmhurst College women's basketball team closed out the 2011 season with a 67-59 loss at Millikin University.

Millikin (17-8, 9-5 CCIW) rallied from a 10-point first-half deficit and outscored the Bluejays 37-24 in the second half en route to the eight-point win.

Elmhurst grabbed a 31-21 lead late in the first half when Devin Vaughn splashed home a three-pointer. Millikin cut the deficit down to 35-30 at halftime.

Millikin evened the score at 50 midway through the second half and the Big Blue grabbed a five-point lead on an Elise Wildman lay-up with 8:35 remaining. 

Elmhurst sliced Millikin's lead down to just two points on a Megan Ney lay-up with six minutes left to play, but the Bluejays went cold for the remainder of the game. Elmhurst missed their final nine shots from the floor and committed five turnovers in the game's final six minutes, allowing Millikin to pull away for the win.

The Bluejays shot 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the floor in the opening half, including 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from downtown. Elmhurst struggled in the second half, hitting only 28.0 percent (7-of-25) from the field, including just 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from beyond the arc.

Ney paced Elmhurst in the loss with 14 points and six rebounds. Vaughn came off the bench to score 11 while Meghan Merklein finished with 10 points. 

Wildman paced the Big Blue with an 18-point, nine-rebound performance. Olya Cholewick added 11 points while Crystal Zeigler added 10 points and seven rebounds. 

Elmhurst wrapped up the season with a 10-15 overall record and a 5-9 mark in the CCIW.
