ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team scored the first 20 points of the game en route to a 61-46 victory over Rockford College.
Elmhurst improved to 7-1 on the season with the win while Rockford slipped to 3-6.
The Bluejays opened the contest by outscoring the Regents 20-0 over the game's first 7:30. The Bluejays built a 24-point cushion before Rockford closed the half with a 12-2 run to pull to within 14 points at the half (36-22).
The Regents continued their run early in the second half, pulling to within 10 points, but the Bluejays bumped their lead back to 19-points and hung on for the 15-point victory.
Tess Godhardt led the Bluejays with a career-high 21 points while shooting 10-of-12 from the floor.
Meghan Merklein and
Megan Ney scored 12 points apiece while also grabbing eight rebounds each.
Fiona McMahon came off the bench to pull down a game-high 13 rebounds and score seven points.
Devin Vaughn added four points and seven assists while
Jordan Maisto totaled six assists for the Bluejays.
Britney Curry scored a game-high 22 points to pace Rockford in the loss. Dani Buttel added 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Regents.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 46.6 percent (27-of-58) from the floor, including 25.0 percent (2-of-8) from downtown. The Regents shot just 35.1 percent (20-of-57) from the field, and were 0-for-7 from beyond the arc. Rockford also struggled from the foul line, hitting just 6-of-15 attempts (40.0 percent).
