BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University ended the Elmhurst College women's soccer team's CCIW Tournament appearance with a 2-1 double overtime victory.
Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard 13:25 into the first half when
Ali Siebel's shot bounced into the box and over the head of Titans' goalkeeper Renata Butikas to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead.
Elmhurst made the lead hold up for the next 61 minutes, before the Titans evened the score. With just 15:41 left in regulation, Emily Hinchman knocked home Tillie Bill's throw in to tie the score at 1-1.
The game remained tied for the end of regulation and throughout the first overtime. With less than three minutes left on the clock, Alex Nasca sent a pass to Molly O'Brien and O'Brien converted from 10-yards out to give the Titans the 2-1 victory.
Illinois Wesleyan (14-3-1) outshot Elmhurst 16-9 in the contest, including a 3-1 advantage in overtime. Elmhurst had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Maddie Fitzpatrick recorded seven saves in goal for the Bluejays while Butikas stopped three shots in net for the Titans.
Illinois Wesleyan will face Wheaton College in the CCIW Tournament finals.
Elmhurst finished the 2011 season with a 13-4-1 overall record. The Bluejays trip to the CCIW Tournament was the team's first since the 2003 season.
