Wesley & Bluejays Stun Fourth-Ranked Wheaton In Overtime

Box Score -

ELMHURST, Ill.
- Valerie Wesley scored 1:45 into the second overtime to help the Elmhurst College women's soccer team stun fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten Wheaton College 2-1.

Wesley's overtime heroics were made possible by Amy Baschen's game-tying goal with just 2:06 left in regulation. Baschen collected  a feed from Wesley and beat Wheaton keeper Kelsey Graham with a low line drive shot to the opposite corner.

After a scoreless first overtime, Wesley used a burst of speed to run past her defender and fired an blast on an angle into the back of the net to give the Bluejays their first win over Wheaton since the 2001 season.

Wheaton (14-1-1, 4-1-0 CCIW) suffered its first CCIW loss since the 2009 season. The Thunder grabbed the lead in the 29th minute when Laura Karsten headed home a corner kick from Katelyn Kishkunas.

Elmhurst goalkeeper Maddie Fitzpatrick kept the Bluejays in the game, allowing just one goal and totaling a career-high 14 saves in the victory.

Graham took the loss in net for the Thunder, surrendering two goals and stopping seven shots.

Wheaton outshot the Bluejays 25-14 and had a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.

Elmhurst (11-3-1, 2-2-1 CCIW) hosts Millikin University next Wednesday (October 26).
