Bluejay Women Roll Past Wheaton 90-69

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team locked up the third seed at the upcoming CCIW Tournament by hammering Wheaton College 90-69.

The Bluejays led from start to finish and never trailed the Thunder. Elmhurst used a strong first half to pull away from the Thunder. The Bluejays raced out to a 10-point lead with just under four minutes to play and closed the half on a 9-2 run to take 41-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Bluejays built a 20-point second half lead and cruised to the 90-69 victory.

Elmhurst shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the floor, including 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from 3-point range. Wheaton shot only 32.2 percent (19-of-59) from the field, including just 20.7 percent (6-of-29) in the first half. 

Lyndsie Longcontinued her red-hot play by totaling a game-high 37 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Long shot 12-of-19 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Megan Ney added 15 points and seven rebounds while Meghan Merklein totaled 11 points and six rebounds. Erika Schwartz added nine points and Kelsey Monroe scored eight for Elmhurst.

Wheaton was led by Brooke Olson's 13 points. Lindsey Brenneman added 12 points and three rebounds while Elisabeth Potts totaled 11 points.

The win by Elmhurst gave Elmhurst 17 victories for the season, the most wins in a single-season since the 1985-86 team posted a 24-3 overall record. The Bluejays' 10 CCIW victories are the most since the 1990-91 team totaled 11 conference wins.

Elmhurst will face Carthage College in the first round of the CCIW Tournament on Friday, February 26, at 5:00 p.m. Tournament host Illinois Wesleyan University will take on Millikin University in the second semifinal at 7:30 p.m.
