Bluejay Women Down Rockford 64-54

ELMHURST, Ill. - Megan Ney and Meghan Merklein scored 16 points apiece to lead the Elmhurst College women's basketball team to a 64-54 victory over Rockford College.

Elmhurst (4-5) opened the contest by shooting 64.0 percent from the floor (16-of-25) in the opening half, building a 39-26 halftime lead in the process.

The Bluejays pushed their lead up to 18 points with 7:30 remaining in the game and never allowed the Regents to get closer than 10 points in the second half.

16 points. Merklein shot 2-of-4 from downtown and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line to finish with 16 for the Bluejays. Kelsey Monroe chipped in with 11 points and a game-high four assists while Rashida Joiner added seven points and a team-leading seven rebounds. Kim Schwerdtmann came off the bench to score seven for Elmhurst.

The Bluejays finished the game shooting 49.0 percent (25-of-51) from the floor, including 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from beyond the arc. Elmhurst finished the game shooting 90.0 percent (9-of-10) from the foul line. 

Megan Lawler totaled a double-double to pace Rockford (3-7) in the loss. Lawler poured in a game-high 22 points while shooting 8-of-9 from the floor. She added a game-high 11 rebounds as well. Kelcy Thorsen chipped in with nine points for the Regents. 

Rockford finished the game shooting 42.0 percent (21-of-50) from the floor. The Regents hit just 1-of-8 three-point attempts during the season. 

Elmhurst travels to DePauw University on Saturday, December 18.
