ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's soccer team slipped to 1-1 in CCIW play after falling 3-0 to fourth-ranked Wheaton College.

Elmhurst (5-3 overall) kept Wheaton (7-1, 1-0 CCIW) off the scoreboard for almost 80 minutes before the Thunder struck three times in the final 10 minutes.

The first half was primarily a defensive struggle for both teams as the Bluejays held the Thunder to only five shots in the first 45 minutes.

Wheaton stormed out early in the second half, outshooting Elmhurst 8-0 to start the half. Elmhurst had some scoring opportunities but could not capitalize.

The Thunder broke the scoring drought in the 80th minute when Ali Kopelman headed home a cross from Brittany Bergh. Three minutes later Val Lelle scored off a Taryne Lee corner kick to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead. Lee added a rebound goal in the 89th minute to give the Thunder the 3-0 win.

Wheaton outshot Elmhurst 25-6 in the contest, including a 20-4 edge in the second half.

Jessica Eberle recorded 11 saves in goal for the Bluejays while Hillary Barreto stopped three shots in goal for Wheaton.

Elmhurst plays at Adrian College on Saturday, September 26.
