ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team upped its record to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in the CCIW by scoring a 61-51 win over Augustana College.
Elmhurst never trailed in the contest and led 27-22 at the half. The Bluejays continued to pull away in the second half, building a 16-point advantage and cruising to the 61-51 win.
The Bluejays shot 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from the floor, including 25.0 percent (1-of-4) from downtown. Augustana (3-18, 1-9 CCIW) shot 37.0 percent (20-of-54) from the field, but only 20.0 percent (2-of-10) from long range. The Vikings also struggled from the free throw line, shooting only 36.0 percent (9-of-25).
Lyndsie Long led Elmhurst by scoring a game-high 20 points. She added three steals in the victory. Meghan Merklein added 13 points while Charnele Harris came off the bench to score eight. Megan Ney added seven points and six rebounds in the win. By scoring five points in the Bluejays' victory, Brittany Bobruk became the ninth player in school history to score over 1,000 points in her career.
Augustana was led by Lani Kasten's nine points. Natale Runge and Kristina Howard both totaled eight points in the loss.
Elmhurst travels to North Central College on Tuesday, February 10.
