ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team won its third straight contest, upping its record to 13-9 overall and 6-5 in the CCIW, by defeating North Park University 62-50.
After starting the game in a shooting slump, the Bluejays fell behind by nine (13-4) in the games first six minutes. The Bluejays responded with a 19-1 run to grab a 23-14 lead with 6:30 remaining in the half. The Bluejays led 32-22 at halftime.
The Bluejays continued to pull away in the second half, building a 20-point advantage (58-38) with 3:16 left on the clock. Elmhurst cruised to the 62-50 victory the rest of the way.
The Bluejays shot 32.9 percent (25-of-76) from the floor, including 25.0 percent (3-of-12) from downtown. North Park (3-18, 0-11 CCIW) shot 35.0 percent (21-of-60) from the field, but only 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from beyond the arc.
Elmhurst dominated on the glass outrebounding North Park by a whopping 63-32.
Lyndsie Long led Elmhurst with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Kelsey Monroe came off the bench to score 10 points. Monroe also set a new single-game record by dishing out 12 assists, breaking the previous mark of 11.
Megan Ney added 10 points while
Meghan Merklein scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.
North Park was led by Larisa Coldebella's 16 points. Amanda Phillips finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds while LaRae Kostreva totaled 12 points, nine rebounds, and eight blocked shots.
With the victory, the Bluejays moved into sole possession of fourth-place in the league standings with just three games to play. The top four teams qualify for the CCIW Tournament.
Elmhurst travels to Carthage College on Tuesday, February 17.
