FRANKLIN, Ind. - Lyndsie Long scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Elmhurst College women's basketball team in an 85-57 rout of Franklin College.
After struggling with its shooting the last two games, Elmhurst (2-2) shot over 50 percent from the floor and raced out to a 35-26 lead at halftime.
Franklin (2-1) scored the first four points of the second half to pull to within five points, but Elmhurst ripped off a 24-7 to open up a commanding 59-37 lead and put the game out of reach. The Bluejays pushed their lead to as many as 30 points and cruised to the 85-57 victory.
Long equaled her career-high in points by pouring in 33 points on 14-of-19 shooting. She finished 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and also finished with a double-double by pulling down a team-leading 11 rebounds.
Megan Ney added 15 points and eight rebounds in the victory for the Bluejays.
Meghan Merklein and
Rashida Joiner scored nine points apiece in the Elmhurst win.
Franklin was led by Heather Harper's 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Traci Lippold added 13 points and Sarah Condra finished with 10.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting 55.7 percent (34-of-61) from the floor, including a whopping 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from downtown. Franklin shot only 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the field and just 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from 3-point range.
Elmhurst dominated Franklin on the glass, as the Bluejays outrebounded the Grizzlies 46-24. Elmhurst pulled down 37 defensive rebounds and allowed Franklin only five offensive rebounds.
The Bluejays travel to the Olivet College Tournament on November 27-28.
