ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's soccer team closed out the 2009 season by falling to 10th-ranked Augustana College 4-1.
With the loss, the Bluejays finished the 2009 season with a 10-7 overall record and a 3-4 mark in CCIW play.
Augustana captured the outright CCIW Championship with the victory, finishing a perfect 7-0 in league play and improving to 16-1-1 overall.
Elmhurst grabbed an early 1-0 lead when
Sarah Harvey scored off a
Cassie Giese assist just 4:34 into the match.
Augustana answered right back, evening the score at one in the 18th minute when Taylor Moesle scored off a Lauren Polock assist.
The game remained knotted at 1-1 until the 80th minute when Polock scored off a Caitlin Winkelman assist to put the Vikings up 2-1.
Katie Oakes added a pair of goals in the final 5:02 to put the game out of reach for Augustana. Oakes scored in the 85th minute off a Kirsten Boesen feed and then added a penalty kick in the 88th minute.
Jessica Eberle and
Allison Korbel split time in goal for the Bluejays. Eberle allowed one goal and recorded three assists while Korbel allowed three goals and stopped six shots. Kayla Radloff stopped two shots to earn the win in net for the Vikings.
