MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's soccer team opened the 2008 season by defeating Monmouth College 3-2.

Elmhurst jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Monmouth answered back on a pair of Amy Unsicker goals to tie the score at 2-all. Valerie Wesley (Chula Vista, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) broke the tie in 62nd minute by scoring the game-winning goal off an assist from Lindsay Carlson (Wildwood, Mo./Eureka)

The Bluejays got on the scoreboard in the 34th minute when Kelsey Caldwell (Plainfield/Plainfield South) scored off an assist from Courtney Constantino (Strongsville, Ohio/H.S.).  Elmhurst made it 2-0 in the 39th minute when Ellyse Cudonee (Charleston/H.S.) connected on an assist from Constantino.

Jessica Eberle (Bloomington, Ind./North) recorded three saves to earn the win in goal.

Elmhurst (1-0) travels to Webster University on Sunday, August 31.
