ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team slipped to 4-3 overall following a 61-48 loss to 18th-ranked University of Chicago. Chicago moved to 6-1 win the win.
The game was close for the majority of the contest. Chicago led 26-24 at halftime, but Elmhurst built up a 37-31 second half lead. Elmhurst had a 44-43 lead with 7:19 to play, but the Maroons went on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take a commanding 54-44 lead with 3:32 remaining. Chicago sealed the win in the closing minute by hitting all four of their free throws.
Both teams struggled offensively. Chicago shot 38.0 percent (19-of-50) from the floor and 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from downtown. The Maroons converted 17-of-20 free throw attempts (85.0 percent). Chicago struggled with ball control, however, turning the ball over 28 times.
Elmhurst struggled with its shooting all game, hitting only 18-of-66 attempts (27.3 percent). The Bluejays were 5-of-17 (29.4) from downtown and 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) from the charity stripe.
Chicago dominated the game on the glass, outrebounding Elmhurst 49-32.
Lyndsie Long paced Elmhurst with 21 points in the loss. Kelsey Monroe added 10 points while Megan Ney came off the bench to score five. Brittany Bobruk pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Bryanne Halfhill led the Maroons with a double-double. Halfhill totaled 21 points (8-of-15 shooting) and 12 rebounds. Molly Hackney added nine points while Alex Leach finished with eight.
Elmhurst hosts the University of Dubuque on Saturday, December 13.
