Women's Hoops Team Topples Benedictine

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team ran its record to 3-2 on the season by ripping Benedictine University 95-77.

Elmhurst raced out to a 17-point lead in the first half and led 50-36 at halftime. The Bluejays pushed their lead to as many as 20 points and cruised to the 95-77 victory.

Elmhurst shot 44.2 percent (34-of-77) from the floor, including 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from beyond the arc. Benedictine shot 44.6 percent (29-of-65) from the field, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from downtown.

Five Bluejays reached double figures in scoring. Lyndsie Long led the charge for Elmhurst, by recording a double-double. Long totaled a game-high 18 points to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds. Kelsey Monroe and Megan Ney added 14 points apiece while Brittany Bobruk finished with 13 points. Meghan Merklein came off the bench to sore 10 points for the Bluejays.

Benedictine was led by Monica Krozel's 18 points. Blair Erickson added 16 points while Lidia Arias finished with 13.

Elmhurst travels to Lakeland College on Tuesday, December 2.
