Women's Basketball Team Hammers Aurora

AURORA, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team evened its record at 2-2 overall by hammering Aurora University 83-54.

The Bluejays stormed out of the gate by shooting 66.7 percent (22-of-33) from the field in the first half. Elmhurst shot 60.0 percent (6-of-10) from beyond the arc in the first half to race out to a 53-25 halftime lead.

Despite cooling off in the second half, the Bluejays never looked back and cruised to the 83-54 win.

Elmhurst finished the game shooting 47.8 percent (32-of-67) from the floor and 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from 3-point range. Aurora (1-3) shot 35.0 percent (21-of-60) from the field and 20.0 percent (3-of-15) from downtown. Elmhurst outrebounded the Spartans 49-34.

Lyndsie Long led the Bluejays with 18 points and five rebounds in the win. Kelsey Monroe chipped in with 15 points. Meghan Merklein came off the bench to add 13 points while Laurel Benson added nine. Megan Ney and Brittany Bobruk added eight points apiece in the win.

No Spartans' player reached double figures in scoring. Ashley Daniels was the top scorer for Aurora, finishing with nine points. Kim Voiles and Michelle Perry added eight points apiece in the loss.

Elmhurst hosts Benedictine University on Saturday, November 29, at 1:00 p.m.
