ELMHURST, Ill. - Valerie Wesley scored a goal and tacked on an assist to lead the Elmhurst College women's soccer team to a 2-1 in over Carthage College.
Elmhurst improved to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in the CCIW with the win. Carthage fell to 15-2 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Wesley started the scoring in the seventh minute when she collected a long pass from Sarah Harvey and beat Carthage keeper Lindsey Bollmann on a one-on-one breakaway.
Elmhurst made it 2-0 in the 27th minute Wesley sent a cross to Kelsey Caldwell at the top of the box. Caldwell collected the pass and blasted home a goal from 20 yards out.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Carthage cut into the Bluejays' lead early in the second half. Jackie Peterson scored off a Maria Korosis pass less than five minutes into the half.
Elmhurst was able to hold Carthage at bay for the remainder of the game and earn the 2-1 win.
Carthage outshot Elmhurst 23-8 and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks
Allison Korbel had a solid game in goal for the Bluejays. The sophomore keeper recorded nine saves in net for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst closes out the 2008 season on Saturday, November 1, by traveling to Carroll University.
