Scott Wachholz Named Head Softball Coach

ELMHURST, Ill. – Scott Wachholz has been named the head softball coach at Elmhurst College. Wachholz comes to Elmhurst after serving as the head softball coach at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Wachholz has previously coached at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and the junior college levels. He spent the past three years as the head coach at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where his players earned multiple first and second team all-league honors. His student-athletes also earned Horizon League All-Freshman Team honors along with Horizon League Player of the Week and Horizon league All-Academic accolades.

"I am really excited to be here and a part of the Elmhurst community," said Wachholz. "I would like to thank [Director of Athletics] Wendy McManus and [Assistant Director of Athletics] Glen Brittich for this great opportunity that I have been presented with. I think that the CCIW is not only a strong conference athletically, but academically as well.  I believe that Elmhurst College is a tremendous institution and athletic program that I look forward to representing as the head softball coach."

"After an extensive search process, I am truly excited to welcome Scott Wachholz to the Bluejay family." said Elmhurst Director of Athletics Wendy McManus "Scott is an energetic leader that brings experiences from varying collegiate levels to our softball program and athletic department. His passion for softball and most importantly for the development of our student-athletes is at the forefront of his vision for the program. We are excited to see the impact he will have with the program."

Wachholz started his coaching career in 2012, at Columbus State University where he held the position of assistant softball coach, while carrying the role as the assistant strength and conditioning coach. He spent the following year as the assistant softball coach at Southwest Minnesota State University.

Following his time as an assistant, Wachholz's head coaching career began in 2013 at Williston State College where he led his squad to becoming the region XIII champions, set 15 new single season school records, and earned himself region XIII Coach of the Year honors. In 2014, he accepted the head coaching position at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where he had 17 players awarded GLVC all-academic team members during his two seasons. His track record led him to his new role in 2016 when he became the head softball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Wachholz, who inherits an Elmhurst team that returns its top-four hitters and top-three pitchers from 2019, is already in the process of developing an accepting team culture and long-term goals.

"I am excited to build on the young core that we have and create excitement around our program," he Wachholz. "It's important that I give my players a full well-rounded experience, not only by establishing a competitive environment, but by holding them to high academic standards. I look forward to investing in the community through camps and clinics, but more importantly have student athletes participate in extracurricular opportunities around Elmhurst."
