Austin Qualifies for Nationals at NCAA Regional

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -
Jake Austin placed eighth overall to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championship while leading the Bluejays to a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Augustana College.

Elmhurst totaled 497 points to place 16th out of 39 teams. North Central College won the team title with 42 points. Washington University (Mo.) placed second with 114 points and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished third with 136 points.

Austin ran with the front of the pack for the entire race, crossing the finish line in 25:14.6 to place eighth overall. Austin earned all-region accolades in the process and qualified for the NCAA Championships next weekend at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Will Cross added a 95th place finish for the Bluejays, completing the course in 26:53.4. Doug Vrchota finished in 114th place in 27:19.8 while Jeff Camp placed 140th in 27:49.2. David Melone finished just behind Camp in 142nd place in 27:51.1.

Jordan Bartolazzi (151st place in 28:04.1) and Nathan Selling (189th place in 28:39.7) completed the Bluejays' top-seven.
