SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Elmhurst College bowling team placed eighth at the Greater Ozark Invitational, posting a 3-10 overall record.
On Friday, the Bluejays posted a 2-3 record while competing in five-game, total pinfall Baker matches. The Bluejays opened the day with back-to-back wins over top-10 teams. Elmhurst downed seventh-ranked Sam Houston State University 924-898 to open the tournament. The Bluejays followed the win by toppling fourth-ranked University of Central Missouri 882-828. After opening with a pair of wins, the Bluejays dropped their next matches falling to sixth-ranked Arkansas State University (919-751), Louisiana Tech. (853-850), and 18th-ranked Valparaiso University (853-838).
Day two of the tournament consisted of standard five-player matches with Elmhurst finishing 1-4 on the day. The Bluejays opened the day with an 854-790 victory over Prairie A&M University (ranked 20th).
Alyssa Collins rolled a 194 to pace the Bluejays while
Amanda Warwick finished just three pins behind with a 191.
Halie Maxwell added a 181 for Elmhurst.
The Bluejays dropped their next four matches, all to top-15 ranked teams. Elmhurst fell 880-733 to 13th-ranked Stephen F. Austin University.
Beth Bogdanich led the Bluejays with a 161 while Warwick rolled a 159. Larissa Howard added a 158 for the Bluejays in the loss. Elmhurst dropped back-to-back matches to Arkansas State falling 898-830 and 1,010-803. Warwick paced the Bluejays in both losses, rolling a 210 and a 205, respectively. Elmhurst closed the day with a 957-778 loss to Sam Houston State. Warwick bowled a 174 while Howard finished with a 170.
The total pinfall of the first two days served as seeding for Sunday's bracketed finals. Elmhurst posted an 0-3 mark while competing in best-of-seven Baker matches. Elmhurst fell to Prairie View A&M University 4-0 in the opener before falling 4-0 to Arkansas State. Elmhurst closed out the tournament with a 4-2 loss to Prairie View A&M.
The Bluejays travel the UW-Whitewater's Warhawk Open on November 5-6.
