INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Elmhurst College bowling team started the 2011-12 season by posting a 4-6 dual match record at the USBC Storm Western Shootout.
Elmhurst opened the first day of the tournament by posting a 1-5 record in the standard dual format games. The Bluejays fell in their opening match to Robert Morris University 909-765. Freshman Larissa Howard made her collegiate debut by leading the Bluejays with a team-high 177. Ann Bialiak added a 169 in the loss.
The Bluejays bounced back from the defeat Indiana State University 795-683. Howard led the Bluejays for the second consecutive match by rolling a 184.
Elmhurst suffered four straight losses to close the day with a 1-4 record. The Bluejays were downed by Ball State University (825-768), Robert Morris University (973-789), Indiana University (776-727) and by Ball State University for a second time (829-762). Howard and
Amanda Warwick led the Bluejays over their final four matches. Howard rolled a game-high 188 in the Bluejays' first-loss to Ball State. Warwick rolled a team-leading 181 in Elmhurst's loss to Robert Morris, a 172 against Indiana, and a team-leading 215 in the team's second loss to Ball State.
Individually, Warwick ranked 20th overall with a total pinfall of 1,061 while Howard ranked 25th with 1,021 pins. A total of 152 individual bowlers participated in the event.
The second day of the tournament consisted of four-game total pinfall Baker matches. Elmhurst finished the day with a 3-1 record defeating Indiana University (605-560), the College of Notre Dame (736-572), and Indiana University (665-612) a second time. The Bluejays' only Baker match loss was a two-pin decision (717-715) to Ball State.
Elmhurst bowls at the Kegel Collegiate Classic on October 22-23.
