MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Elmhurst College baseball team kicked off the 2010 season by dropping a pair of games to Concordia College at the Metrodome in Minnesota.
Elmhurst dropped the opening game of the doubleheader by a 6-3 final score. The Bluejays were blanked 2-0 in game two.
CONCORDIA 6, ELMHURST 3 (Game One) - Elmhurst dropped its 2010 opener to Concordia 6-3. The Bluejays scored all three runs of their runs in the third inning. With one out,
Ryan Schrader walked and then scored on a
Marc Shield RBI triple.Shield
Nick Herrera followed with a run-scoring single and then scored on
Mike Kerr's RBI double. Kerr recorded a pair of hits in the loss for the Bluejays.
Cody Boals started for the Bluejays and earned a no-decision from the mound. He pitched four innings and allowed three runs while striking out seven.
Joe Luft took the loss in relief, working three innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out six.
CONCORDIA 2, ELMHURST 0 (Game Two) Elmhurst dropped to 0-2 after failing to push home a run in the second game of the doubleheader. The Bluejays managed just five hits with Herrera recording two of them.
Zach Hofer started and took the loss for the Bluejays, despite allowing just one earned run in five innings of work. Hofer surrendered just two hits and two walks while fanning seven Concordia batters.
Elmhurst takes two weeks off before returning to action on Saturday, March 20, with a doublheader at Hanover College.
