ELMHURST, Ill. - Lyndsie Long was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's (CCIW) Most Outstanding Player in women's basketball. Long earned her third consecutive first-team all-conference honor while sophomore
Megan Ney was chosen to the all-conference second team. Sophomore
Meghan Merklein was named to the third-team all-conference team.
Long, who became the first Elmhurst player to earn CCIW Most Outstanding Player honors, rewrote the Elmhurst record book during her senior year. The Bluejay forward leads the squad and ranks second in the nation in scoring, averaging 24.6 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds, averaging 7.3 boards per game.
In CCIW play, Long finished as the conference's leading scorer, averaging 26.1 points per game. She totaled 615 points, the second-highest single-season total in CCIW history. She ranked fifth in the conference in rebounding (7.4 rebounds per game) while also being named the conference's Player of the Week five times.
Long broke or tied five Elmhurst and CCIW single-game records in a contest against Carthage. She scored 45 points against the Lady Reds, setting a new single-game scoring record for Elmhurst and the CCIW. Her 16 field goals against Carthage tied CCIW and Elmhurst single-game records. Her eight 3-pointers also set a new single-game Elmhurst record.
Long became Elmhurst's all-time leading scorer by surpassing the former mark of 1,780 points. She is one of only three players in Elmhurst history to total over 1,500 points and 600 rebounds. She currently has 1,825 points in her career to go along with 626 rebounds.
Ney earned second-team all-conference accolades after finishing the season ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.7 points per contest. She finished second on the squad in rebounds, with 5.2 boards per game. She saved some of her best performances for CCIW play,
ranking ninth in the league in scoring (12.1 points per game) and third in the conference in rebounds (7.7 per game). She also led the conference in offensive rebounds, averaging 3.57 per game.
Merklein earned third-team all-conference honors after finishing the season averaging 13.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. In conference play, Merklein averaged 12.1 points (tied for ninth place) and led the conference in free throw percentage (.897).
Elmhurst takes on Carthage College in the first round of the CCIW Tournament on Friday, February 26.
